BMI (Body Mass Index) is the measurement of body fat based on the relation between a persons length and weight. What is the definition of body mass index? It is a standardized estimate of an individual’s relative body fat calculated from his or her height and weight.

English BMI Formula BMI = (Weight in Pounds / (Height in inches) x (Height in inches) ) x 703
Metric BMI Formula BMI = (Weight in Kilograms / (Height in Meters) x (Height in Meters))

The four categories of the BMI Index:

  • Underweight = <18.5
  • Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
  • Overweight = 25-29.9
  • Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
