We are told from childhood that it is good for your health to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. It is a well known fact that 70 to 75 % of the human body mass is made up by water. We are also told that if we drink lots of water it will help us to lose weight. But should we be drinking water to lose weight?
Yes, drinking water and dieting definitely goes hand in hand.
Here are some of the reasons why you should be drinking water to lose weight (without getting too technical):
- Clean water can help to flush out toxins and other impurities in your body.
- Without enough water your body’s metabolism slows down which means less calories are burnt. More water will increase your metabolism and the conversion of fat into energy will be more efficient.
- A lack of water disrupts your digestion which have a negative effect on the elimination of waste by your body.
- When your body is dehydrated you can get a “false” signal of hunger.
- On the other hand if you drink a glass of water before a meal or whenever you are feeling hungry you will eat less.
- Water has been described as a miracle drink, it contains no fat and no calories, you can drink as much as you want without adding weight!
It is clear that you can lose weight by drinking water, but to make your weight loss more effective you should combine this wonder drink with a good diet. Water is a perfect addition to any diet and you should find that increased consumption of water will enable you to lose weight more easily.
